DAY 1 OF 5

The Greatest Love Story

In a day of superficial relationships, the Song of Songs taps into the deepest longing of our hearts. We long to know and be known, to love and be loved, to cherish and be cherished. God’s love for us is passionate and He longs for a passionate bride in return.

The word passion has also come to mean the suffering of Christ, as His love was so intense for us that He went to the cross. If people could be awakened to see that the Bible is not a book of rules or heroes but a love story, the story of the One who left everything to rescue His bride, might it finally penetrate their hearts? And if you, who may indeed know the Lord, could see, hear, feel, and taste this love, how might your relationship with Him be transformed?

We do not worship a statue or a far-off force but a God who became bone of our bones and flesh of our flesh, who dwelt among us, and who is love itself. He loves us, not as we should be, but as we are. This is the recurring melody of the Song of Songs: As the bridegroom loves the bride, she flourishes. As she adores Him in return, she becomes increasingly beautiful, reflecting Him as the moon reflects the sun.

You are more cherished than you dared to dream. The Song will help press the truth into your heart, for it is one thing to be told that God rejoices over us as a bridegroom rejoices over His bride, but it is quite another thing to see it.

The Song of Songs reminds me of a dance. It is God who initiates, and then as we allow Him to take us in His arms, He takes our breath away by swirling us about the dance floor. He sings to us a song, a gospel love song, a Song of all songs.

Shall we dance?

Is the idea that God desires intimacy with you something new to you? What does it mean to you?

Day 2

About this Plan

He Calls You Beautiful By Dee Brestin

The "Song of Songs" is a love letter from God, tucked within the Old Testament. Though it may seem shocking that God would share such an intimate love story with us, He knows it is what our doubting hearts need. So speak the Song aloud as you journey through this devotional. Allow God’s living Word to arouse your passion for Him and your awareness of His deep love for you.
