Greater Journey

DAY 3 OF 12

GREATER HEALTH

READY
"Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?" 1 Corinthians 3:16 (ESV)

SET
"Train to get stronger and healthier so that one can enjoy the sport, and not the other way round." This was a quote from a coach, encouraging his basketball team to prioritise strength and conditioning training. A lot of injuries in sports are due to lack of strength and imbalances in muscles. Athletes spend months side-lined rehabilitating to retrain and strengthen their muscles.

The same can be said about doing God’s Work and serving in a ministry. A healthy body, mind, and spirit enables one to serve God effectively. First Corinthians 3:16 clearly states that the body is God’s temple and that is where the Spirit rests.

Therefore, we ought to prepare our bodies well, taking care of our physical health – through regular exercise and healthy diet – and spiritual health – through daily reading of the Word, prayer, mediation, and worship. Above all, we should allow ourselves to rest for physical and mental restoration by observing the Sabbath for it’s intended purpose. Many doing God’s Work neglect their health by pushing their bodies beyond their limit.

We need to remember that God loves us and wants us to rest in Him.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (ESV)

In whatever Ministry we are in, let’s remember that strengthening and conditioning our bodies helps create a healthy body, allowing the spirit within us to do more, hear more, and love more.

GO

  • When was the last time you took a proper break to allow your body to rest in God?
  • Are there any areas of your health (body, mind, and/or spirit) that you are neglecting?
  • What can you do to get necessary and meaningful rest?

WORKOUT
1 Corinthians 3:16, Matthew 11:28-30, 1 Samuel 16:11-13, Philippians 4:13
