data-usfm="JOB.34.21"><span class="label">21</span><span class="content">&#8220;His eyes are on the ways of mortals;</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v21" data-usfm="JOB.34.21"><span class="content">he sees their every step.</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v21" data-usfm="JOB.34.21"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v22" data-usfm="JOB.34.22"><span class="label">22</span><span class="content">There is no deep shadow, no utter darkness,</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v22" data-usfm="JOB.34.22"><span class="content">where evildoers can hide.</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v22" data-usfm="JOB.34.22"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v23" data-usfm="JOB.34.23"><span class="label">23</span><span class="content">God has no need to examine people further,</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v23" data-usfm="JOB.34.23"><span class="content">that they should come before him for judgment.</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v23" data-usfm="JOB.34.23"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v24" data-usfm="JOB.34.24"><span class="label">24</span><span class="content">Without inquiry he shatters the mighty</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v24" data-usfm="JOB.34.24"><span class="content">and sets up others in their place.</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v24" data-usfm="JOB.34.24"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v25" data-usfm="JOB.34.25"><span class="label">25</span><span class="content">Because he takes note of their deeds,</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v25" data-usfm="JOB.34.25"><span class="content">he overthrows them in the night and they are crushed.</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v25" data-usfm="JOB.34.25"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v26" data-usfm="JOB.34.26"><span class="label">26</span><span class="content">He punishes them for their wickedness</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v26" data-usfm="JOB.34.26"><span class="content">where everyone can see them,</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v26" data-usfm="JOB.34.26"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v27" data-usfm="JOB.34.27"><span class="label">27</span><span class="content">because they turned from following him</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v27" data-usfm="JOB.34.27"><span class="content">and had no regard for any of his ways.</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v27" data-usfm="JOB.34.27"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v28" data-usfm="JOB.34.28"><span class="label">28</span><span class="content">They caused the cry of the poor to come before him,</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v28" data-usfm="JOB.34.28"><span class="content">so that he heard the cry of the needy.</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v28" data-usfm="JOB.34.28"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v29" data-usfm="JOB.34.29"><span class="label">29</span><span class="content">But if he remains silent, who can condemn him?</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v29" data-usfm="JOB.34.29"><span class="content">If he hides his face, who can see him?</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v29" data-usfm="JOB.34.29"><span class="content">Yet he is over individual and nation alike,</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v29" data-usfm="JOB.34.29"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v30" data-usfm="JOB.34.30"><span class="label">30</span><span class="content">to keep the godless from ruling,</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v30" data-usfm="JOB.34.30"><span class="content">from laying snares for the people.</span></span></div><div class="b"></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v30" data-usfm="JOB.34.30"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v31" data-usfm="JOB.34.31"><span class="label">31</span><span class="content">&#8220;Suppose someone says to God,</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v31" data-usfm="JOB.34.31"><span class="content">&#8216;I am guilty but will offend no more.</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v31" data-usfm="JOB.34.31"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v32" data-usfm="JOB.34.32"><span class="label">32</span><span class="content">Teach me what I cannot see;</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v32" data-usfm="JOB.34.32"><span class="content">if I have done wrong, I will not do so again.&#8217;</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v32" data-usfm="JOB.34.32"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v33" data-usfm="JOB.34.33"><span class="label">33</span><span class="content">Should God then reward you on your terms,</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v33" data-usfm="JOB.34.33"><span class="content">when you refuse to repent?</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v33" data-usfm="JOB.34.33"><span class="content">You must decide, not I;</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v33" data-usfm="JOB.34.33"><span class="content">so tell me what you know.</span></span></div><div class="b"></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v33" data-usfm="JOB.34.33"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v34" data-usfm="JOB.34.34"><span class="label">34</span><span class="content">&#8220;Men of understanding declare,</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span </span></span><span class="verse v36" data-usfm="JOB.34.36"><span class="label">36</span><span class="content">Oh, that Job might be tested to the utmost</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v36" data-usfm="JOB.34.36"><span class="content">for answering like a wicked man!</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v36" data-usfm="JOB.34.36"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v37" data-usfm="JOB.34.37"><span class="label">37</span><span class="content">To his sin he adds rebellion;</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v37" his words against God.&#8221;</span></span></div>

He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="LUK.23.2"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="LUK.23.3"><span class="label">3</span><span class="content">So Pilate asked Jesus, &#8220;Are you the king of the Jews?&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="LUK.23.3"><span class="content">  </span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;You have said so,&#8221;</span></span><span class="content"> Jesus replied.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="LUK.23.3"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="LUK.23.4"><span class="label">4</span><span class="content">Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, &#8220;I find no basis for a charge against this man.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="LUK.23.4"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="LUK.23.5"><span class="label">5</span><span class="content">But they insisted, &#8220;He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="LUK.23.5"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="LUK.23.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean. </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="LUK.23.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">When he learned that Jesus was under Herod&#8217;s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="LUK.23.7"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="LUK.23.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort. </span></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="LUK.23.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer. </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="LUK.23.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him. </span></span><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="LUK.23.11"><span class="label">11</span><span class="content">Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate. </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="LUK.23.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">That day Herod and Pilate became friends&#8212;before this they had been enemies.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="LUK.23.12"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="LUK.23.13"><span class="label">13</span><span class="content">Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people, </span></span><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="LUK.23.14"><span class="label">14</span><span class="content">and said to them, &#8220;You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. Crucify him!&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v21" data-usfm="LUK.23.21"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v22" data-usfm="LUK.23.22"><span class="label">22</span><span class="content">For the third time he spoke to them: &#8220;Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. They said, &#8220;He saved others; let him save himself if he is God&#8217;s Messiah, the Chosen One.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v35" data-usfm="LUK.23.35"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v36" data-usfm="LUK.23.36"><span class="label">36</span><span class="content">The soldiers also came up and mocked him. Save yourself and us!&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v39" data-usfm="LUK.23.39"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v40" data-usfm="LUK.23.40"><span class="label">40</span><span class="content">But the other criminal rebuked him. &#8220;Don&#8217;t you fear God,&#8221; he said, &#8220;since you are under the same sentence? </span></span><span class="verse v41" data-usfm="LUK.23.41"><span class="label">41</span><span class="content">We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God. </span></span><span class="verse v52" data-usfm="LUK.23.52"><span class="label">52</span><span class="content">Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus&#8217; body. </span></span><span class="verse v53" data-usfm="LUK.23.53"><span class="label">53</span><span class="content">Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid. </span></span><span class="verse v54" data-usfm="LUK.23.54"><span class="label">54</span><span class="content">It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v54" data-usfm="LUK.23.54"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v55" data-usfm="LUK.23.55"><span class="label">55</span><span class="content">The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. </span></span><span class="verse v56" data-usfm="LUK.23.56"><span class="label">56</span><span class="content">Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes.          <div class="label">17</div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">Babylon, the Prostitute on the Beast</span></div><div class="p"><span class="content">  </span><span class="verse v1" data-usfm="REV.17.1"><span class="label">1</span><span class="content">One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, &#8220;Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits by many waters. </span></span><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="REV.17.2"><span class="label">2</span><span class="content">With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="REV.17.2"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="REV.17.3"><span class="label">3</span><span class="content">Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. </span></span><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="REV.17.4"><span class="label">4</span><span class="content">The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. </span></span><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="REV.17.5"><span class="label">5</span><span class="content">The name written on her forehead was a mystery:</span></span></div><div class="pc"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="REV.17.5"><span class="content">babylon the great</span></span></div><div class="pc"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="REV.17.5"><span class="content">the mother of prostitutes</span></span></div><div class="pc"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="REV.17.5"><span class="content">and of the abominations of the earth.</span></span></div><div class="m"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="REV.17.5"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="REV.17.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God&#8217;s holy people, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="REV.17.6"><span class="content">When I saw her, I was greatly astonished. </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="REV.17.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">Then the angel said to me: &#8220;Why are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns. </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="REV.17.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will come up out of the Abyss and go to its destruction. The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="REV.17.8"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="REV.17.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">&#8220;This calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits. </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="REV.17.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for only a little while. </span></span><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="REV.17.11"><span class="label">11</span><span class="content">The beast who once was, and now is not, is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="REV.17.11"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="REV.17.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">&#8220;The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast. </span></span><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="REV.17.13"><span class="label">13</span><span class="content">They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast. </span></span><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="REV.17.14"><span class="label">14</span><span class="content">They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings&#8212;and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="REV.17.14"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v15" data-usfm="REV.17.15"><span class="label">15</span><span class="content">Then the angel said to me, &#8220;The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages. </span></span><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="REV.17.16"><span class="label">16</span><span class="content">The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire. </span></span><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="REV.17.17"><span class="label">17</span><span class="content">For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to hand over to the beast their royal authority, until God&#8217;s words are fulfilled. </span></span><span class="verse v18" data-usfm="REV.17.18"><span class="label">18</span><span class="content">The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.&#8221;</span></span></div>
