The TemptationsSample
On a snowy winter day in elementary school, I remember walking back up a big sledding hill near my house. It was always tough to climb, yet worth it when I got to sled down again. This particular time I was about halfway up the hill when I cried out, “I’m slipping!” My brother rushed over to catch me and help me back up the rest of the hill.
This situation is similar to what Jesus does for us. Whenever we are slipping into sin, God’s love supports us. In this Psalm, we are reminded that God’s mercy is great and sustains us, even in the most difficult of times. Because of the work Jesus did for us on the cross, we will never fall completely, as our eternal destiny is secured, even though we may slip up at times and fall short of His glory.
Personally, this gives me a lot of comfort, because whenever I feel the guilt and shame from falling into sinful patterns, I know that I can cry out to the Lord and God’s love will be stirred, ultimately resulting in God racing to my rescue.
During this week, I challenge you not to run from Jesus when you come in contact with temptation that you’ve fallen into, but to instead run to God, because God will be there to catch you and help you back up that hill.
