You have no idea what you are doing. Yes, you are aware you are fasting. Yes, you are praying about specific situations. Yes, you are asking God to strengthen the church, but the reality is you cannot begin to imagine the reach of your prayers.

In Acts 13, some of the earliest Christians decided to fast for God’s direction, and in response the Holy Spirit gave them clear guidance. What they didn’t know in that moment, was just how far reaching the result their fast would be.

Acts 13:2 “While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them’.”

This may not sound that astounding, but this changed the course of history. Before this word from the Holy Spirit there was no strategic missionary movement beyond the eastern coast of the Mediterranean. Before this, Paul had not journeyed west to Asian Minor, Greece, Rome, or Spain.

In fact, 13 out of the 27 books of the New Testament were the result of the ministry that was set in motion through this time of prayer and fasting. You cannot fathom the scale and scope of what God is doing through the time you have spent calling on Him!
