One of the best things about Jesus? The example He gave us to follow with our lives today! When we’re not sure how to choose humility or even what it looks like lived out, we can find our answer in Jesus’ life and ministry. The course of His life on Earth was a literal masterclass in the art of humility. His arrival as the Savior of the world in a manger surrounded by only His earthly parents and the animals inside. His life as a young Boy in a seemingly typical family. The choosing of His disciples, not the expected religious leaders, but the ordinary men who committed to follow Him. The way He invited in the forgotten, the overlooked, the outcasts, the misunderstood. The way He served, healed and helped those in need around Him. His brutal death on the cross for our salvation. It’s all an example of what it looks like to dedicate your life to others. It’s an example of what it means to serve others above ourselves. It’s an example of countercultural humility, and it’s one we can follow still today!

Take time this week to read more about Jesus’ life and ministry in one of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John). As you do, note the ways you see Jesus setting a countercultural example of humility with His life. Ask Him to grow His humility in you, so you can live your life humbly, but powerfully, like He did.
