Dinner With JesusSample

There’s this famous line in the Spider-Man comics where Uncle Ben says to Peter Parker—who’s Spider-Man in disguise—“With great power comes great responsibility.” In other words: “You have this gift, but it’s not for nothing. You have to use it in a way that honors the gift you have.” In a way, the apostle Peter and Uncle Ben are saying similar things. God has given to each of us gifts and talents, but they’ve been given to us for a reason—to use with purpose.
Peter used the word “steward” here, meaning this: We’re managers of the gifts we’ve been given. Our gifts aren’t ours to only possess, but to use, for the benefit of those around us. That’s our responsibility. Take some time today and think about how you have been gifted, and then think about your responsibilities to use those gifts in ways you may have never considered before.

About this Plan

Some of our most meaningful memories revolve around sharing a meal. Food has a way of taking an ordinary gathering and making it memorable. That’s why it makes sense that some of Jesus’ most impactful conversations and encounters happened over a shared meal. Let's look at some of the meals Jesus shared with all sorts of different people and see what we might learn for our own time and context.
