Lord's Prayer: Thy Kingdom ComeSample
Praying “Thy kingdom come” means waiting. We see that Jesus has ushered it in. We know He rules over all in heaven. And we’d like more of heaven to come here. It hasn’t fully happened yet. So we wait. We yearn. We cry out for God to bring it about.
This implies trust. It implies that we trust Jesus to come back. It implies we trust Him to bring about all that God has promised. It implies that we trust Him to hold onto us and help us until He does. It also implies longing. That we want Him to come! Some don’t want Jesus to come. They’re afraid of it. They imagine all kinds of end-times horrors of fire and brimstone judgment. They see themselves on the wrong side of things.
But followers of Jesus know they’re on the right side of things. They’re on the right side, not because they’re so great, but because Jesus is. Jesus comes to those trapped in the wrong kinds of kingdoms to free them and bring them into His kingdom. Not a kingdom of oppression, death, and shame. A kingdom of life and freedom in God’s grace. Think Exodus, but on a cosmic scale. And Jesus’ offer to be on the right side is available to everyone. This is what repentance is all about. “Lord, bring me into Your kingdom.”
Praying “Thy kingdom come” is a way of asking God to bring it to me. Jesus is inviting you to ask God to bring you into it!
Consider this today…
Are you on the right side or wrong side of things with God? If you’re afraid it’s the wrong side of things, would you pray for God to forgive you, renew you, and bring you into His kingdom today? Pray for His kingdom to come to you today.
About this Plan
Christians are different. They can’t help it. When you’re in Christ and filled with the Spirit, it changes you. This leads to strange expectations. It’s a different kind of hope flowing from Christ’s perspective on things. This is the third in a series of 5-day plans that uses the Lord’s Prayer to show how Jesus invites us to approach life and the future.
