Grow With God: 31 Day DevotionalSample
DO YOU WORK FOR GOD OR MAN?
DAY TWELVE OF THIRTY ONE
This has been a theme in my life as a Christian adult. Sometimes we forget that our focus should be all about serving God. It’s not about getting what we want or doing things the way we want to.
I can think of several incidents where God called me to an assignment, and I wondered “What’s in it for me”? Or I thought: “The Lord wants me to do this job, so it must be my big break!” I kept thinking that if I was obedient, a huge blessing would immediately come upon me.
God blesses us, and sometimes that blessing is in the form of refining our character. Sometimes that blessing is in seeing that you’ve made someone else’s day. When we work for the Lord, we understand that we answer to Him.
We also understand that He is above all things, and it helps us not to be so afraid of man or even put our hope in other people.
Trusting God is probably the hardest lesson I’ve had to learn because—in my weakness—I want to be in control. I want to see what’s coming 10, 20, or 30 years down the line. That’s not how He works because we wouldn’t have to have faith or fully put our hope in Him if that were the case.
Prayer: Ask God to help you with any fears you have about giving Him control of your future. Pray that He’ll show you what He wants for you instead of having your gaze set on your own goals and plans.
