Sin meets life... who wins?
READ ROMANS 7
Christ wins, of course – nothing can defeat Him. Here’s how it worked out for you and me.
Imagine you lived to be 100 years old. Imagine you committed one sin per day. That’s 36,500 sins. Then imagine committing 5 or 10 per day. At 10 it would be 365,000. That’s a lot.
When Jesus died in our place, He died to cleanse us from the number of sins we committed. But there is better news. Jesus died to free us from our sin nature – our inner self that can’t stop sinning, loves it, and wants to – even as Christians. We are then filled with remorse and wonder how we could sin, knowing that Jesus went to the cross in our place.
Being freed from the sin nature is much, much better than just being freed from the total number of our sins. And that is just what Jesus has done. The power of His life is much greater than the world, the flesh and the devil combined!
Tip: the Bible tells us we have been given all we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Now sin is a very great power. But the power of Jesus in you is greater. Just use the Holy Spirit through your willpower to serve Jesus, not sin. Then you will experience your own overcoming of the sin nature.
