Three Ways to Prevent a Spiritual RelapseSample
Day Two | Sit at the Feet of Jesus
God Wants Us to Prioritize Intimacy with the Savior.
The second way to prevent a spiritual relapse is to learn to sit at the feet of Jesus. In Luke 10:38-42, we witness a scene where Mary chooses to sit at the feet of Jesus while Martha is distracted by her many tasks. This passage addresses the importance of prioritizing communion with Christ over worldly responsibilities and mundane, yet seemingly important, tasks.
Mary's posture of sitting at Jesus' feet signifies humility, receptivity, and a desire to learn from the Master, Christ Jesus. As seasoned believers, we understand the significance of cultivating intimacy with Jesus through intentional time spent in His presence.
Sitting at Jesus' feet demonstrates a heart posture and willingness to listen and learn. It reflects a level of spiritual maturity that values spiritual nourishment over worldly distractions. Jesus commends Mary for choosing the "better part," which cannot be taken away from her (Luke 10:42).
For us as believers, sitting at the feet of Jesus involves:
- Listening to His Teachings: Intimacy with Jesus begins with an open and receptive heart. We prioritize His Word and allow His teachings to shape our thoughts and actions.
- Learning from His Presence: Spending time in prayer and meditation deepens our understanding of who Jesus is. We draw near to Him, seeking to know Him more intimately.
- Embracing Sacred Silence: In the busyness of life, sitting at Jesus' feet invites us to embrace moments of stillness and reflection. We allow His presence to speak into our lives.
As seasoned believers, let us prioritize intimacy with Jesus over the demands of the world and the pressures we may place on ourselves to tend to the various priorities in our lives. May we cultivate a lifestyle of sitting at His feet, listening to His voice, and learning from His wisdom.
(Personal Reflection) Journal Question
What distractions or busyness hinder my intimacy with Jesus? What areas of my spiritual, personal, and/or professional life need renewal through intimate communion with the Lord?
Your Practical Action Step
Set aside dedicated time each day for silent prayer, Bible study, and meditation. Embrace the simplicity of being with Him and allow His presence to transform your heart. Prioritize intimacy over busyness, seeking to deepen your relationship with the Savior.
A little bonus tip for the Momma with littles: Introduce your child/ren to what my toddler knows as “daily quiet time with Jesus”. Remember Proverbs 22:6 and use this time to focus on gratitude. Time with Jesus is not confined to a specific time of day. He gives us grace and capacity in each season. Lean into that grace and focus on presence over performance. God can do a lot with five minutes of your time.
See you on Day Three.
