True Prosperity vs. The Riches of This WorldSample

True Prosperity vs. The Riches of This World

DAY 6 OF 9

The Rich Fool

Listen to our friend Mo tell Jesus’s story about what happened to the rich fool.

When asked to make a judgment on an inheritance case, Jesus addressed the root issue of greed instead. He told a story of a rich fool who planned to build more storehouses for his great harvest. The rich man looked forward to his life of abundance and merriment, but he died that night, and someone else received all his wealth.

Jesus explained the point or the moral of the story. The man's error was not being rich but thinking only of himself. He did nothing to grow in his relationship with God. While it is not sinful to be wealthy, earthly possessions are not permanent. They belong to God ultimately. Only our relationship with God gives us true prosperity.

Jesus used the metaphor 'rich toward God.' This phrase does not mean someone must give God money to buy his way into heaven or to have a long life. It means having strong faith in God and walking with him. A rich relationship with God is our true prosperity.
