Keep in mind that Jesus is our King

“Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel.” (2 Timothy 2:8)

Today, I want to focus once more on the verse from 2 Timothy 2. For there is a little phrase that catches our attention. Paul describes Jesus as “the offspring of David”. Why is this mentioned here, among the core things we need to remember?

Centuries before Jesus was born, God promised to king David, “Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.” And indeed, David’s descendants reigned for several centuries. But then they were besieged by the Babylonians as punishment for their sins (both of the kings and the people). Since then, the royal line of David seemed to have stopped. However, several prophets stressed that an “offspring of David” would arise. “Of the increase of His government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over His kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore.” (Isaiah 9:7)

Jesus Christ is this promised King. He must rule as king until He has won against all his enemies. This is important to keep in mind, especially when your earthly life is difficult. Jesus is King, He will reign forever over all the earth and He will make all things new!
