What About Me?!

DAY 9 OF 10

Work On Your Weak Spots

[That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpassesmere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being]unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, andbecome a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!

Ephesians 3:19 (AMPC)

Imagine how wonderful it would be to simply be someone wholly filled with God. I heard one pastor say, “If you aren’t hungry for God, you are full of yourself.” That is so true! Selfishness is a disease that afflicts all of us in one way or another. Even if you have the gift of helping others and you love to serve people, you may be selfish in other ways.

I spent many years of my life becoming angry when I didn’t get my way. Thankfully, I have matured since then, but in some areas, I definitely want what I want and am not shy about trying to get it!

One of my weakest areas involves eating. I must admit that where and what I eat for my main meal each day is far too important to me. Because of our lifestyle, my husband Dave and I eat out a lot or order food from restaurants. And I really want to love what I eat. So I spend far too much time trying to figure out the perfect meal.

This may not seem like a big deal, but I don’t want to be controlled by anything or feel like I have to get my way in an area in order to be happy. It’s a form of selfishness.

What are your areas of weakness? If you aren’t sure, ask a friend or family member. Better yet, ask God to reveal your weaknesses to you. Then start paying attention to how much you think about certain things and how much energy you expend trying to get your way in certain areas. Once you know where you need help, you can begin to improve.

Nothing is impossible with God (Matthew 19:26)! If He can change me, He can change anyone. You may have to give some things up and be ready to endure the pain of “dying to self.” But it is far better to endure the pain of progress than to endure the pain of remaining unchanged.

Let’s Pray: “God, I know I have weaknesses, but I also know that I’m not alone and that You’re here to help me grow. Thank You for giving me the desire to change and the grace I need to do it. I’m grateful for the positive changes that are possible because Christ lives in me. Thank You for loving me and teaching me how to be more like Jesus. Amen.”

Family Activity: We’re better together! It’s not always easy to be open and honest about our personal weaknesses, but it is a great way to strengthen family bonds. Take the opportunity to share your weaknesses with one another and pray for each other. Choose a fitting scripture for each family member and encourage them to meditate on that Word.
