Walking in Wonder - Draw Near to God as You Navigate Your Child's Second Year of LifeSample

Jesus Needed Rest
Sometimes we can have a supermom complex. Somehow we think we can do it all and not get burned out. Here’s the thing: it’s not the good things that burn us out. It’s the lack of rest that burns us out. Even Jesus, Savior of the world, needed rest. Consider for a moment how short in the scheme of things His time for public ministry truly was. He ministered for three years before His death and resurrection. That’s a little over one thousand days. He knew His time was short, and yet He rested.
He trusted God to do what He needed to do through Him in that limited time. He trusted that He could rest and leave the rest to God’s sovereign care. He showed the discipline to stop and care for His physical needs and the needs of His ragtag crew. Guess what? You can too.
Do you need to get away by yourself for an hour or two, a day, or a night? Pray about it; then ask for some help to make that a reality. Or maybe you are someone who is recharged by time with people. Maybe you need to give yourself permission to go out with the girls while your spouse or babysitter watches the little one. Or to have a date night alone with your spouse. Or maybe you need to put some playdates with a mama friend on the calendar that are more for you than your toddler. That’s okay too.
Rest is necessary. Rest is a discipline. Rest recharges us for ministry. Jesus rested, and so should you.
