Daily Bible Reading— September 2024, God’s Guiding Word: WisdomSample

September 5
Introduction
Mark 7:1–13: Jesus is confronted by Pharisees and scribes who had come from Jerusalem. They question him about matters pertaining to ritual purity, and Jesus admonishes them for rejecting God’s law.
Today’s Key Verse: Mark 7:8
[Jesus said:] “You put aside God’s commands and obey human teachings.”
Reflect
What prompted the religious leaders to question Jesus? How did Jesus respond? What are your thoughts as you reflect on today’s reading?
Pray
Gracious God, how easy it is to get caught up in details, in rules and regulations! Forgive me when I become too concerned about appearances and fail to act in ways that align with your will and reflect your love. Thank you, God, for helping me to trust in your teachings and guiding me in the ways of your truth. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Mark 7:14–23: Jesus teaches about what makes a person unclean.
