 <div class="label">8</div><div class="s1">The Shunammite&#8217;s Land Restored</div><div class="p"> 1Now Elisha had said to the woman whose son he had restored to life, &#8220;Go away with your family and stay for a while wherever you can, because the Lord has decreed a famine in the land that will last seven years.&#8221; 2The woman proceeded to do as the man of God said. She and her family went away and stayed in the land of the Philistines seven years.</div><div class="p"> 3At the end of the seven years she came back from the land of the Philistines and went to appeal to the king for her house and land. 4The king was talking to Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, and had said, &#8220;Tell me about all the great things Elisha has done.&#8221; 5Just as Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had restored the dead to life, the woman whose son Elisha had brought back to life came to appeal to the king for her house and land.</div><div class="p">Gehazi said, &#8220;This is the woman, my lord the king, and this is her son whom Elisha restored to life.&#8221; 6The king asked the woman about it, and she told him.</div><div class="p">Then he assigned an official to her case and said to him, &#8220;Give back everything that belonged to her, including all the income from her land from the day she left the country until now.&#8221;</div><div class="s1">Hazael Murders Ben-Hadad</div><div class="p"> 7Elisha went to Damascus, and Ben-Hadad king of Aram was ill. When the king was told, &#8220;The man of God has come all the way up here,&#8221; 8he said to Hazael, &#8220;Take a gift with you and go to meet the man of God. Consult the Lord through him; ask him, &#8216;Will I recover from this illness?&#8217;&#8198;&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 9Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him as a gift forty camel-loads of all the finest wares of Damascus. He went in and stood before him, and said, &#8220;Your son Ben-Hadad king of Aram has sent me to ask, &#8216;Will I recover from this illness?&#8217;&#8198;&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 10Elisha answered, &#8220;Go and say to him, &#8216;You will certainly recover.&#8217; Nevertheless,#8:10 The Hebrew may also be read Go and say, &#8216;You will certainly not recover,&#8217; for. the Lord has revealed to me that he will in fact die.&#8221; 11He stared at him with a fixed gaze until Hazael was embarrassed. Then the man of God began to weep.</div><div class="p"> 12&#8220;Why is my lord weeping?&#8221; asked Hazael.</div><div class="p">&#8220;Because I know the harm you will do to the Israelites,&#8221; he answered. &#8220;You will set fire to their fortified places, kill their young men with the sword, dash their little children to the ground, and rip open their pregnant women.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 13Hazael said, &#8220;How could your servant, a mere dog, accomplish such a feat?&#8221;</div><div class="p">&#8220;The Lord has shown me that you will become king of Aram,&#8221; answered Elisha.</div><div class="p"> 14Then Hazael left Elisha and returned to his master. When Ben-Hadad asked, &#8220;What did Elisha say to you?&#8221; Hazael replied, &#8220;He told me that you would certainly recover.&#8221; 15But the next day he took a thick cloth, soaked it in water and spread it over the king&#8217;s face, so that he died. Then Hazael succeeded him as king.</div><div class="s1">Jehoram King of Judah</div><div class="p"> 16In the fifth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, when Jehoshaphat was king of Judah, Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat began his reign as king of Judah. 17He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. 18He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 19Nevertheless, for the sake of his servant David, the Lord was not willing to destroy Judah. He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever.</div><div class="p"> 20In the time of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against Judah and set up its own king. 21So Jehoram#8:21 Hebrew Joram, a variant of Jehoram; also in verses 23 and 24 went to Zair with all his chariots. The Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, but he rose up and broke through by night; his army, however, fled back home. 22To this day Edom has been in rebellion against Judah. Libnah revolted at the same time.</div><div class="p"> 23As for the other events of Jehoram&#8217;s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 24Jehoram rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.</div><div class="s1">Ahaziah King of Judah</div><div class="p"> 25In the twelfth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign. 26Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother&#8217;s name was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri king of Israel. 27He followed the ways of the house of Ahab and did evil in the eyes of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done, for he was related by marriage to Ahab&#8217;s family.</div><div class="p"> 28Ahaziah went with Joram son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead. The Arameans wounded Joram; 29so King Joram returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramoth#8:29 Hebrew Ramah, a variant of Ramoth in his battle with Hazael king of Aram.</div><div class="p">Then Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab, because he had been wounded.</div>

 <div class="label">48</div><div class="s1">The Division of the Land</div><div class="p"> 1&#8220;These are the tribes, listed by name: At the northern frontier, Dan will have one portion; it will follow the Hethlon road to Lebo Hamath; Hazar Enan and the northern border of Damascus next to Hamath will be part of its border from the east side to the west side.</div><div class="p"> 2&#8220;Asher will have one portion; it will border the territory of Dan from east to west.</div><div class="p"> 3&#8220;Naphtali will have one portion; it will border the territory of Asher from east to west.</div><div class="p"> 4&#8220;Manasseh will have one portion; it will border the territory of Naphtali from east to west.</div><div class="p"> 5&#8220;Ephraim will have one portion; it will border the territory of Manasseh from east to west.</div><div class="p"> 6&#8220;Reuben will have one portion; it will border the territory of Ephraim from east to west.</div><div class="p"> 7&#8220;Judah will have one portion; it will border the territory of Reuben from east to west.</div><div class="p"> 8&#8220;Bordering the territory of Judah from east to west will be the portion you are to present as a special gift. It will be 25,000 cubits#48:8 That is, about 8 miles or about 13 kilometers; also in verses 9, 10, 13, 15, 20 and 21 wide, and its length from east to west will equal one of the tribal portions; the sanctuary will be in the center of it.</div><div class="p"> 9&#8220;The special portion you are to offer to the Lord will be 25,000 cubits long and 10,000 cubits#48:9 That is, about 3 1/3 miles or about 5.3 kilometers; also in verses 10, 13 and 18 wide. 10This will be the sacred portion for the priests. It will be 25,000 cubits long on the north side, 10,000 cubits wide on the west side, 10,000 cubits wide on the east side and 25,000 cubits long on the south side. In the center of it will be the sanctuary of the Lord. 11This will be for the consecrated priests, the Zadokites, who were faithful in serving me and did not go astray as the Levites did when the Israelites went astray. 12It will be a special gift to them from the sacred portion of the land, a most holy portion, bordering the territory of the Levites.</div><div class="p"> 13&#8220;Alongside the territory of the priests, the Levites will have an allotment 25,000 cubits long and 10,000 cubits wide. Its total length will be 25,000 cubits and its width 10,000 cubits. 14They must not sell or exchange any of it. This is the best of the land and must not pass into other hands, because it is holy to the Lord.</div><div class="p"> 15&#8220;The remaining area, 5,000 cubits#48:15 That is, about 1 2/3 miles or about 2.7 kilometers wide and 25,000 cubits long, will be for the common use of the city, for houses and for pastureland. The city will be in the center of it 16and will have these measurements: the north side 4,500 cubits,#48:16 That is, about 1 1/2 miles or about 2.4 kilometers; also in verses 30, 32, 33 and 34 the south side 4,500 cubits, the east side 4,500 cubits, and the west side 4,500 cubits. 17The pastureland for the city will be 250 cubits#48:17 That is, about 440 feet or about 135 meters on the north, 250 cubits on the south, 250 cubits on the east, and 250 cubits on the west. 18What remains of the area, bordering on the sacred portion and running the length of it, will be 10,000 cubits on the east side and 10,000 cubits on the west side. Its produce will supply food for the workers of the city. 19The workers from the city who farm it will come from all the tribes of Israel. 20The entire portion will be a square, 25,000 cubits on each side. As a special gift you will set aside the sacred portion, along with the property of the city.</div><div class="p"> 21&#8220;What remains on both sides of the area formed by the sacred portion and the property of the city will belong to the prince. It will extend eastward from the 25,000 cubits of the sacred portion to the eastern border, and westward from the 25,000 cubits to the western border. Both these areas running the length of the tribal portions will belong to the prince, and the sacred portion with the temple sanctuary will be in the center of them. 22So the property of the Levites and the property of the city will lie in the center of the area that belongs to the prince. The area belonging to the prince will lie between the border of Judah and the border of Benjamin.</div><div class="p"> 23&#8220;As for the rest of the tribes: Benjamin will have one portion; it will extend from the east side to the west side.</div><div class="p"> 24&#8220;Simeon will have one portion; it will border the territory of Benjamin from east to west.</div><div class="p"> 25&#8220;Issachar will have one portion; it will border the territory of Simeon from east to west.</div><div class="p"> 26&#8220;Zebulun will have one portion; it will border the territory of Issachar from east to west.</div><div class="p"> 27&#8220;Gad will have one portion; it will border the territory of Zebulun from east to west.</div><div class="p"> 28&#8220;The southern boundary of Gad will run south from Tamar to the waters of Meribah Kadesh, then along the Wadi of Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea.</div><div class="p"> 29&#8220;This is the land you are to allot as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel, and these will be their portions,&#8221; declares the Sovereign Lord.</div><div class="s1">The Gates of the New City</div><div class="p"> 30&#8220;These will be the exits of the city: Beginning on the north side, which is 4,500 cubits long, 31the gates of the city will be named after the tribes of Israel. The three gates on the north side will be the gate of Reuben, the gate of Judah and the gate of Levi.</div><div class="p"> 32&#8220;On the east side, which is 4,500 cubits long, will be three gates: the gate of Joseph, the gate of Benjamin and the gate of Dan.</div><div class="p"> 33&#8220;On the south side, which measures 4,500 cubits, will be three gates: the gate of Simeon, the gate of Issachar and the gate of Zebulun.</div><div class="p"> 34&#8220;On the west side, which is 4,500 cubits long, will be three gates: the gate of Gad, the gate of Asher and the gate of Naphtali.</div><div class="p"> 35&#8220;The distance all around will be 18,000 cubits.#48:35 That is, about 6 miles or about 9.5 kilometers</div><div class="p">&#8220;And the name of the city from that time on will be:</div><div class="pc">the Lord is there.&#8221;</div>

They made her stand before the group 4and said to Jesus, &#8220;Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?&#8221; 6They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.</div><div class="p"> But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, &#8220;Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.&#8221; 8Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.</div><div class="p"> 9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10Jesus straightened up and asked her, &#8220;Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 11 &#8220;No one, sir,&#8221; she said.</div><div class="p"> &#8220;Then neither do I condemn you,&#8221; Jesus declared. &#8220;Go now and leave your life of sin.&#8221;</div><div class="iex"></div><div class="s1">Dispute Over Jesus&#8217; Testimony</div><div class="p"> 12When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, &#8220;I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 13The Pharisees challenged him, &#8220;Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 14Jesus answered, &#8220;Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. 15You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one. 16But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me. 17In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true. 18I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 19Then they asked him, &#8220;Where is your father?&#8221;</div><div class="p"> &#8220;You do not know me or my Father,&#8221; Jesus replied. &#8220;If you knew me, you would know my Father also.&#8221; 20He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.</div>

Live as children of light 9(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10and find out what pleases the Lord. 11Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13But everything exposed by the light becomes visible&#8212;and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14This is why it is said:</div><div class="q1">&#8220;Wake up, sleeper,</div><div class="q2">rise from the dead,</div><div class="q2">and Christ will shine on you.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 15Be very careful, then, how you live&#8212;not as unwise but as wise, 16making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord&#8217;s will is. 18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.
