We are going to sit in Psalm 77 today. Jonah 2:5 describes how the waters “closed in” and “surrounded” Jonah. Waters are often a symbol of chaos in the biblical narrative and sometimes life can feel like this for us. The psalmist describes things we can do to remind ourselves of who God is in these times. Psalm 77 is full of descriptive examples of how we can rely on God in difficult times:
- Cry aloud
- Think
- Meditate
- Consider
- Remember
- Commune
As we read the Psalm today, let’s take time to also practice one or some of these verbs which can lead us to finding rest. God is in control of the waters and will make a way through.

About this Plan

Jonah is a somewhat unique book because rather than focusing on Jonah's message, it focuses on his own story. In an age where many are deconstructing or questioning their faith because of perceiving God to be too strict, harsh, or un-loving (especially in the Old Testament), Jonah’s story stands as an example of God’s great love for humanity and redemptive purpose for the salvation of the whole world.
