A perfect God for imperfect people

Marriage and family are at the heart of God’s design for humanity. Yet, despite our best efforts, we often find ourselves struggling with conflicts, misunderstandings, and brokenness. It’s easy to feel discouraged when our marriages are strained or when family relationships seem beyond repair.

But I find courage when I consider Jesus’ lineage. The flaws, failures, and brokenness that line the pages of the Old Testament are a far cry from anything I’m experiencing. Unlike David, my children are not trying to kill me. Unlike Sarah, my husband hasn’t offered me to a foreign king, and unlike Joseph, my siblings have never sold me into slavery.

However, comparing my own wrestles to those outlined in the Word doesn’t change the very real pain that we experience when we are in the midst of marital crisis or family conflict.

It’s only when I reflect on how these stories ended that I see real hope and comfort. God used these broken people, weaving their stories into His grand plan – redemption in Jesus.

We can trust that God is at work. He is busy making everything new. He understands our struggles and offers us His strength and comfort. He is faithful to bring good out of the most broken situations. Our imperfections are nothing compared to His perfect plans and sovereignty to execute.
