A psalm of David.</div><div class="q1"> 1The heavens declare the glory of God;</div><div class="q2">the skies proclaim the work of his hands.</div><div class="q1"> 2Day after day they pour forth speech;</div><div class="q2">night after night they reveal knowledge.</div><div class="q1"> 3They have no speech, they use no words;</div><div class="q2">no sound is heard from them.</div><div class="q1"> 4Yet their voice#19:4 Septuagint, Jerome and Syriac; Hebrew measuring line goes out into all the earth,</div><div class="q2">their words to the ends of the world.</div><div class="q1">In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.</div><div class="q2"> 5It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,</div><div class="q2">like a champion rejoicing to run his course.</div><div class="q1"> 6It rises at one end of the heavens</div><div class="q2">and makes its circuit to the other;</div><div class="q2">nothing is deprived of its warmth.</div><div class="b"></div><div class="q1"> 7The law of the Lord is perfect,</div><div class="q2">refreshing the soul.</div><div class="q1">The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,</div><div class="q2">making wise the simple.</div><div class="q1"> 8The precepts of the Lord are right,</div><div class="q2">giving joy to the heart.</div><div class="q1">The commands of the Lord are radiant,</div><div class="q2">giving light to the eyes.</div><div class="q1"> 9The fear of the Lord is pure,</div><div class="q2">enduring forever.</div><div class="q1">The decrees of the Lord are firm,</div><div class="q2">and all of them are righteous.</div><div class="b"></div><div class="q1"> 10They are more precious than gold,</div><div class="q2">than much pure gold;</div><div class="q1">they are sweeter than honey,</div><div class="q2">than honey from the honeycomb.</div><div class="q1"> 11By them your servant is warned;</div><div class="q2">in keeping them there is great reward.</div><div class="q1"> 12But who can discern their own errors?</div><div class="q2">Forgive my hidden faults.</div><div class="q1"> 13Keep your servant also from willful sins;</div><div class="q2">may they not rule over me.</div><div class="q1">Then I will be blameless,</div><div class="q2">innocent of great transgression.</div><div class="b"></div><div class="q1"> 14May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart</div><div class="q2">be pleasing in your sight,</div><div class="q2"> Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.</div>

 <div class="label">23</div><div class="s1">Exclusion From the Assembly</div><div class="p"> # In Hebrew texts 23:1-25 is numbered 23:2-26. 1No one who has been emasculated by crushing or cutting may enter the assembly of the Lord.</div><div class="p"> 2No one born of a forbidden marriage#23:2 Or one of illegitimate birth nor any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord, not even in the tenth generation.</div><div class="p"> 3No Ammonite or Moabite or any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord, not even in the tenth generation. 4For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim#23:4 That is, Northwest Mesopotamia to pronounce a curse on you. 5However, the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you. 6Do not seek a treaty of friendship with them as long as you live.</div><div class="p"> 7Do not despise an Edomite, for the Edomites are related to you. Do not despise an Egyptian, because you resided as foreigners in their country. 8The third generation of children born to them may enter the assembly of the Lord.</div><div class="s1">Uncleanness in the Camp</div><div class="p"> 9When you are encamped against your enemies, keep away from everything impure. 10If one of your men is unclean because of a nocturnal emission, he is to go outside the camp and stay there. 11But as evening approaches he is to wash himself, and at sunset he may return to the camp.</div><div class="p"> 12Designate a place outside the camp where you can go to relieve yourself. 13As part of your equipment have something to dig with, and when you relieve yourself, dig a hole and cover up your excrement. 14For the Lord your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you.</div><div class="s1">Miscellaneous Laws</div><div class="p"> 15If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand them over to their master. 16Let them live among you wherever they like and in whatever town they choose. Do not oppress them.</div><div class="p"> 17No Israelite man or woman is to become a shrine prostitute. 18You must not bring the earnings of a female prostitute or of a male prostitute#23:18 Hebrew of a dog into the house of the Lord your God to pay any vow, because the Lord your God detests them both.</div><div class="p"> 19Do not charge a fellow Israelite interest, whether on money or food or anything else that may earn interest. 20You may charge a foreigner interest, but not a fellow Israelite, so that the Lord your God may bless you in everything you put your hand to in the land you are entering to possess.</div><div class="p"> 21If you make a vow to the Lord your God, do not be slow to pay it, for the Lord your God will certainly demand it of you and you will be guilty of sin. 22But if you refrain from making a vow, you will not be guilty. 23Whatever your lips utter you must be sure to do, because you made your vow freely to the Lord your God with your own mouth.</div><div class="p"> 24If you enter your neighbor&#8217;s vineyard, you may eat all the grapes you want, but do not put any in your basket. 25If you enter your neighbor&#8217;s grainfield, you may pick kernels with your hands, but you must not put a sickle to their standing grain.</div>

 <div class="label">3</div><div class="p"> 1Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you? 2You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. 3You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.</div><div class="p"> 4Such confidence we have through Christ before God. 5Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. 6He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant&#8212;not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.</div><div class="s1">The Greater Glory of the New Covenant</div><div class="p"> 7Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was, 8will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? 9If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! 10For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. 11And if what was transitory came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!</div><div class="p"> 12Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. 13We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. 14But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. 15Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate#3:18 Or reflect the Lord&#8217;s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.</div>
