Acts 2:14-41 | God's Rescue MissionSample

Acts 2:14-41 | God's Rescue Mission

DAY 4 OF 5

The relationship between the Spirit and Jesus – between the crucifixion/resurrection/ascension and Pentecost – can seem disjointed, like it’s two separate things. Peter didn’t see it that way. Neither would Jesus and the Spirit.

Peter’s speech can get a bit confusing. He seems to go down some rabbit holes, and his point can be easily missed if you don’t know what to look for and aren’t thinking with his frame of reference.

His framework is God ruling the world. Not only that he does, but how he does it. That’s what’s behind Peter’s speech. Acts is about the ongoing work of the exalted King Jesus.

Here’s the gist. Jesus was crucified, but now raised. A resurrection promised through King David is now accomplished through the true son and heir of King David. David’s heir, Jesus, defeated Death, the greatest stronghold of the kingdom of darkness.

Jesus is this world’s rightful king. Exalted. Reigning. Now advancing and administering God’s kingdom in this world. It came about through his resurrection. Even before the outpouring of the Spirit, this is the indication that we are now breaking into God’s age to come.

Now exalted on his throne in heaven which stands over all, Jesus pours out his Spirit into those who believe in him to go into every corner, dark haunt, and God-forsaken place on this globe. Sleeper cells, now ready to proclaim him King and usher in his good news. This is why God’s Spirit is poured out. To bring Christ’s kingdom that rescues from death.

Acts 2:14-41 | God's Rescue Mission

Acts is a call to salvation through the work of King Jesus pouring out his Spirit. This 5-day plan continues a journey through the book of Acts, the Bible’s gripping sequel of Jesus at work in the life of his followers as he expands his kingdom to the ends of the earth. It’s a journey on what it means to be a Christian. It’s a story in which you have a role to play.
