It Transforms You
Let’s pick the Bible up and see what it does for us. It transforms us. It transforms me and it transforms you. That’s what this verse is saying. “The law of the LORD .” The law is the word Torah: law for life, rule for living. God’s Word is to be the norm. It is the standard by which every other truth is measured or assessed.
Notice it is, “The law of the LORD.” Think about how through the centuries men have laid down their laws and rules saying this is the way society should be governed. People come and go but, “The law of the LORD” remains. It is also “perfect.” That summarizes it doesn’t it?
The word perfect means literally all-sided; many faceted; all encompassing; comprehensive. “The law of the LORD” is so perfect it “revives the soul.” In one translation it says, “converts the soul.” The soul is the inner part of you. It’s the immaterial part of you. You’re not just a physical person. There’s also a part of you that is spiritual. There’s a part of you that will live forever. That’s the part that needs to be converted.
I have been so blessed to pastor Harvest Bible Chapel through many years. We get to watch God change the hearts of so many people. But how does God do it? “The law of the LORD is perfect,” converting the soul. God’s Word is so powerful. That’s what you are holding. The Bible is so powerful it is able to take an unsaved, unregenerated, uninterested, hard-hearted guy like me and absolutely turn my life around!
That’s an awesome thing and by itself is a reason to pick up God’s Word. And He can do that in Your life too! But you’ve got to pick it up.
Prayer – Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word. Thank You that even someone like me can understand it, be blessed by it, and be changed forever. Place in my heart a desire to dig deeply in it every day. Thank You that You have sent Your Spirit into this world to guide us into this truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
