DAY 3 OF 7

Generosity

Generosity is the spirit and action of freely and frequently giving to others. Generosity can also refer to an overall spirit of kindness. It places God’s gifts and blessings into the marketplace. Put simply, by giving we receive.

Refreshment here denotes provision of water and in that provision of water to refresh others, you yourself will be satisfied or refreshed. Blessings are both ways when you are generous. In Luke 6:38, Jesus says, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

As a Christian, for me this is about selflessness–giving of self in a way that benefits others. They are blessed, and you are refreshed because of it. In Christian ministry, especially in Christian community radio, we are blessed because of the generosity of our supporters–not just their money, but their words and encouragement and time given.

We can all be generous in so many ways, and we know how that can impact so many people as we bring our gifts of time, money, skills, and life experience to others. I suppose what I’m saying is don’t close yourself off from opportunities to reflect your love of Christ to those in need. By saying no, you miss the opportunity to refresh others and the blessing you’ll receive from it. This proverb is simple and full of truth. Take the opportunities to act on it.
