The Strangers on the RoadSample
The Levite On The Road
What Do We Know About The Levite?
Unlike priests, Levites were not direct descendants of Aaron. Instead, they were members of the tribe of Levi (one of the twelve tribes of Israel), and their job was to assist the priests. This may explain why the Levite in the parable made the same decision as the priest, seeing the beaten man and passing by on the other side of the road.
How Does The Levite Point To Jesus?
While Levites descended from the tribe of Levi, Joseph, Jesus' earthly father, came from the tribe of Judah. Like the Levites, the human bloodline that led to Jesus includes men and women who significantly impacted God’s Kingdom. Despite this remarkable lineage, which includes great leaders like David and Solomon, Jesus came to earth with a distinct and unique purpose. The 12 disciples He assembled would become the fulfillment of the 12 tribes of Israel!
How Do These Answers Impact Us?
It’s possible that when you step back and consider your life, your potential feels predetermined by the family you were born into (for better or for worse). We can find hope in recognizing that both Jesus and the Levite came from family lines filled with incredible triumphs and significant failures. No matter your family or current situation, God has a distinct plan for you!

Let's Think About This
Question #1: What is one thing that “jumped out” to you while reading Luke 10:32?
Question#2: Do you feel as though your family is a help or a hindrance in your pursuit of walking in the purpose God has for you?
Question#3: The priest likely played an influential role in the life of the Levite, as evidenced by him also avoiding the beaten man. Can you think of a leader in your life who has significantly impacted you, whether positive or negative?

About this Plan
During this seven-day Bible study, we will take a closer look at each character in the parable of the Good Samaritan and seek to answer three questions: 1. What do we know about the stranger? 2. How does the stranger point to Jesus? 3. How do these answers impact us? As we examine Luke 10:25-37, it becomes clear that the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus are revealed in every detail of this famous story!
