A Love Worth Sharing: The Love That Leads Us

It’s easy to think Christmas is the destination of Advent. But Christmas isn't the end; it's the beginning. Christmas isn't the destination, but an invitation: where will you let God's Love lead you?

God's Love created us, so how can God's Love move us?

Mary is an inspiring example. Her love for God led her down a challenging road. She faced the possibility of being shunned by her community for a pregnancy before marriage. She endured the long journey to Bethlehem and the danger of childbirth. And, if that wasn't enough, her new family faced persecution from the jealous King Herod.

Out of her love for God and her trust in His Goodness, Mary was prepared to risk a great deal.

But Mary's love also led her to great joy. We get to hear this in her beautiful song, which is shared in the first chapter of Luke's Gospel. Mary's song reminds us that God's Love brings Justice and Restoration. God's Love lifts the humble, feeds the hungry, scatters the proud.

And so, we start to understand that to share in God's Love means to strive for a better world. As believers, we're called to join with God in His Loving Rork of Restoration: this is the Gospel.

Galatians 5:22 helps us know that we have opportunities to do this every day. Every act of kindness, every choice to be selfless, every time we lend a helping hand, are moments where we get to share God's Love.

At Compassion, we're blessed to see God's Love in action in remarkable ways. We see the dedication of our church partners as they reach out to their communities, coming alongside children and their families facing many barriers from poverty, helping them practically, emotionally and spiritually.

God's Love inspires us to be moved with compassion. He gives us hearts that long for justice, that long to see good in the world. Let's pray that, like Mary, we'll have faith to follow wherever God's Love leads us.

God of Justice, thank You that You lift up the humble and feed the hungry. Help us to create a fairer, more just world. Let Your Kingdom come, Lord, and Your Restoration break through. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
