DAY 9 OF 31

Day 9 Renewal Readings

The Attributes of God

The Lord, the Lord God, is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin. (Exodus 34:6–7)

The Lord executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness. (Psalm 103:6, 8)

The Works of God

The Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate it and take care of it. (Genesis 2:7, 9, 15)

In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. (Genesis 5:1)

My Relationship to God

Has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. (1 Samuel 15:22–23)

I desire not only to call You Lord but to do what You say. By Your grace, I will come to You, hear Your words, and put them into practice. Then I will be like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock, and when a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. (Luke 6:46–48)

The Character I Want to Cultivate

A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult. (Proverbs 12:16)

I will not be quickly provoked in my spirit, for anger rests in the bosom of fools. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

My Relationship to Others

I will learn to do good, seek justice, remove the oppressor, defend the orphan, and plead for the widow. (Isaiah 1:17)

When Christ comes to reign as king on His glorious throne, He will say to the sheep on His right hand, “Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; I was naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.” Then the righteous will answer Him, “Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? And when did we see You a stranger and invite You in, or naked and clothe You? And when did we see You sick or in prison and come to You?” And the King will answer and say to them, “I tell you the truth, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did it to Me.” (Matthew 25:31, 34–40)
