Where Do We Come From?Sample
Sent Away from God's Presence
“Therefore the Lord God sent him [= man] out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken.” (Genesis 3:23)
The first humans had sinned. As a result, they would die. Therefore, they could no longer live in the Garden of Eden, where the Tree of Life stood. God sent them away, out into the wide world.
In doing so, He did give them clothing, so they no longer had to be ashamed of their nakedness. So God did not abandon the people. But the personal, open-minded relationship that originally existed between man and his creator had been severely violated. Adam and Eve no longer lived close to the Lord God. They were sent away from His presence. Since then, this has been the situation for every human being. However, the miracle is that God has nevertheless come near to man again and again. God the Son even entered our world as a human being. He “dwelt among us.” He made it possible for the relationship between God and man to be restored. He wants to come and live in our hearts. This awakens in us a deep desire to be completely at home with God again. The apostle Paul puts it this way: we would prefer to leave our bodies to take up residence with the Lord.
The best news is: everyone who believes in Jesus Christ will actually get to live with God forever after their death. Then the breach between creator and creature is finally permanently repaired!
