The Church - Ephesians 4Sample
Walking Worthy of Your Calling
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:1-6
"Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being diligent to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you also were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all."— Ephesians 4:1-6 (NASB 2020)
As believers, we are called to live in a way that reflects the transformation Christ has worked in us. In this passage, the Apostle Paul urges us to "walk in a manner worthy of the calling" we have received. He emphasizes qualities such as humility, gentleness, patience, and unity. Let’s meditate on this scripture and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us about our walk with God.
- Called to Walk Worthy (Ephesians 4:1)
Paul writes, "Therefore I urge you, the prisoner of the Lord, to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called." This is not just a suggestion but a divine charge to live in a way that honors the incredible grace and salvation we have received. God has chosen us to be His representatives, set apart by His grace. Walking worthy means living with the awareness that we carry Christ's name and reflect His nature in all that we do. - Walking in Humility and Gentleness (Ephesians 4:2)
Paul continues, "With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love." Humility is foundational to our relationship with God and others. It means recognizing our need for God’s grace in every aspect of life. Gentleness is not weakness but a controlled strength that reflects Christ’s character. It allows us to respond to others with grace rather than harshness, showing the same compassion Christ has shown to us. - Patience and Bearing with One Another (Ephesians 4:2)
In our walk, we are called to be patient, "bearing with one another in love." Patience is a fruit of the Spirit, and it enables us to endure and forgive, even when it is difficult. It reflects the long-suffering nature of God, who is patient with us. In our relationships, we are to bear with each other, showing the love that binds us together. This love is not conditional but a reflection of the unconditional love of Christ. - Unity in the Spirit (Ephesians 4:3-6)
Paul urges us to be "diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." Unity is not something we create; it is a gift of the Spirit that we must protect. We are one body, with one Spirit, one Lord, and one faith. The bond of peace is the supernatural peace that the Holy Spirit brings, holding us together despite our differences. Unity in the body of Christ is a testimony to the world of God's reconciling power through Jesus Christ.
Applications
- Walk with humility and gentleness.
In all your relationships, be humble and gentle, modeling the attitude of Christ.“But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, ‘God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble’“ (James 4:6). - Exercise patience and love.
In moments of frustration or conflict, choose patience, knowing that God is patient with you."Love is patient, love is kind" (1 Corinthians 13:4). - Pursue unity in the Spirit.
In your family, church, or community, work to maintain the unity of the Spirit by fostering peace."Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God"(Matthew 5:9). - Rely on the Holy Spirit daily.
To walk in a manner worthy of your calling, depend on the Holy Spirit to strengthen and guide you."Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of armies" (Zechariah 4:6).
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for calling me into Your glorious kingdom and for the privilege of being Your child. I ask for the grace to walk in a manner worthy of this calling. Help me to reflect humility, gentleness, patience, and unity in all I do. Holy Spirit, empower me to live according to Your will, preserving the unity of the Spirit and bearing with others in love. Let my life be a testimony of Your grace. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen.
