21 Days: CommissionedSample
DAY 8: DOWN BUT NOT OUT
Key verse: “Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; take all the people of war with you..” - Joshua 8:1
Imagine you’re running late. You are banking on getting on that next train to make it on time, so you sprint to the train station. At last, when you are steps away from entering the train, the doors close in your face... If you’ve ever been left feeling frustrated while watching the train speed away, you’re not alone. However, here’s the thing - another train is coming. Just because you missed this one doesn’t mean your journey is over. You wait, reset, and get ready to continue moving forward.
In Joshua 8, the Israelites were in a similar position. After their defeat at Ai, they could have felt like their journey had come to an end. But God had other plans. Even after their setback, God reassured them that they were still commissioned to win this battle. Similarly, He is calling us to persevere, knowing that victory is still possible if we follow His lead.
Maybe you’ve encountered a setback in a project at work or in your health. Don’t let that stop you from trying again and believing God once more for your breakthroughs.
God’s commission has not changed. He hasn’t revoked His purpose for you, even if you’ve stumbled or have been delayed. The key is to keep moving forward, knowing that setbacks are not the end. In fact, they are often the setup for your next breakthrough. You’re still commissioned for victory – so get back up and keep moving forward.
Response
Have you experienced any setbacks in your ministry, work, or personal life recently? How might God be calling you to move forward?
What are some ways you can remind yourself that God’s commission remains, even in the face of challenges or failures?

About this Plan
In this 21-day devotional, Commissioned, we’ll explore how God called Joshua to lead His people into the Promised Land—and how He’s calling each of us to step into our own mission. Just like Joshua, we are commissioned by God to advance His purposes, no matter where we are. Over these next 21 days, you’ll be challenged to walk in faith, courage, and obedience, knowing that God goes before you, equips you, and strengthens you for every battle ahead. Prepare to reflect on your calling and the impact God wants to make through your life.
