FREE FROM SIN
Kendall Woods
Do you ever feel that sin has a hold on you and comes knocking on the door far too often? Do you feel that it’s got a hold on your life? Do you feel buried in sin and struggle to run from it? Well, my friend, here is some good news for you… In Christ, we are invited into a life of true freedom—freedom from the grip of sin, from the shame of our past, and from the fear of judgement. Often, we carry burdens that Jesus has already lifted for us on the cross. He didn’t just die to forgive our sins; He died to break the chains that sin and guilt try to wrap around us. When we accept this truth, we’re not just forgiven—we’re transformed. Our old self, bound by sin and regret, is put to death, and we’re made new, given the chance to live in victory and peace.
But even as we know this in our minds, living it out can be challenging. We may still feel pulled back by our weaknesses, tempted by old habits, or haunted by memories of things we wish we hadn’t done. Yet, Jesus has provided for this, too. When He ascended, He sent His Spirit to dwell within us, giving us the power and guidance to resist sin and to follow His ways. We don’t face our struggles alone; the very Spirit of God works in us, transforming our hearts and desires to align with His.
Our freedom in Christ means we are no longer defined by what we’ve done or even by what we’re struggling with today. We are not condemned; we are redeemed. And as redeemed children of God, we can walk forward without fear, knowing that our identity is secure in Him. When the enemy tries to remind us of our past, we can remind him of Christ’s sacrifice. We can say, “I am free, for the Son has set me free.”
This freedom is also an invitation to live differently, to walk differently and to talk different, to make choices that reflect the life we’ve been given. It’s not just about avoiding sin; it’s about embracing the abundant life Jesus promises—one of peace, love, joy, and purpose. When we live in the freedom He’s given us, we become a testimony of His grace to others, showing the world what it means to be truly alive in Him.
