"Well I know what I've done

And if judgement should come I couldn't face it, on my own

But the Savior stepped in, saw the worst of my sin and just erased it

I guess you could say I got a friend in high places"

We know what we have done, and we are constantly reminded of this. We have no defense; we can't face it on our own.

But now here is the Good News of the Gospel: while we were sinners, Jesus stepped in. Even though He fully knows us, He is our Advocate, He is our Defense Attorney, and even though we are found guilty, He has paid the penalty. We walk out of the courtroom with our debt paid, free men and women. Though the enemy will still try to accuse us of our transgressions and will throw it in our faces when we continue to fail, the reality is the debt is paid in full!

In the times of Jesus, when the debt was paid in full the payer would be issued a receipt stamped with the word "Tetelestai". This was a Greek word meaning "It is finished." When Christ died on the Cross the translation of what He said was the word "Tetelastai". Jesus was announcing to the world that the debt was settled, with the receipt to prove it! Think about that: the One that didn't owe paid for everyone that did owe! The only One who didn't have to pay paid the bill in full!!
