The Big 5

DAY 5 OF 10

Day 5: God Is Good!

The world is always trying to destroy our perception of God’s Nature through deception, primarily by tempting us to question God’s Faithfulness. Deception continually tries to break down Truth. Satan whispers, “Let me tell you why God’s not good.” He wants to accuse God before you because if he can shake your beliefs about God, you will quit living in victory. You’ll quit living as an overcomer. He thinks, If he can change your belief so that you deny God’s Goodness, then you’ll have no power to do anything. A crack in our foundation begins to form when we question God's Faithfulness.

First Corinthians 1:9 tells us that God is Faithful. Why is God Faithful? He is Faithful because He is Good.

This is the confession we’re meant to hold onto—the confession that flows from our hearts as a reflection of our true beliefs, not just recited because someone told us to say it. Here is the truth about belief: we need help to believe. The Holy Spirit’s Job is to reveal the Father to us, to help us believe.

It’s critical to believe that God is Good. If He’s not Good then He is not Trustworthy. The magnitude of His Goodness can be found in Matthew 5:44-45 when Jesus encourages us to love and pray for our enemies, “For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust” (NKJV). He’s Good even to our enemies. That doesn’t mean He agrees with their actions, what this is saying is that God is Good and His Goodness is available to all people.

One aspect of God’s Goodness is His Mercy. Psalm 107:1 (NKJV) says, “Oh, give thanks to the Lord for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” Mercy is not getting what we deserve. God’s Mercy pours out of Him continually revealing His Goodness.

The opinions of the world we live in do not define my perception of God’s Character and Nature. My experiences don’t define it either. I have determined that who He says He is defines His Goodness. Here's the Truth: whether I see the Goodness of God in my surroundings is often determined by what I choose to focus on. Problems we encounter begin to erode our perception of the Goodness of God when we begin to blame God for our circumstances.

Martha questioned God’s Goodness in John 11:25-26. Jesus redirected her and said this: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this” (NKJV)? It’s the same question He’s asking you today. Do you believe that He’s the Resurrection and the Life?

If you are truly aware of His Goodness, you will readily respond to His Invitation and reach out and receive what He has for you. In fact, once you experience His Goodness, you will look for it everywhere, and you’ll find it.

Make this your declaration today: I believe God is Good!
