The Intentions of The Heart

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” Hebrews 4:12 NLT

The Word of God is alive and weighs the thoughts and intentions of the heart. The Word of God discerns, sifts, and weighs our innermost thoughts, intentions, and desires. The Word of God knows where your spirit starts and where your soul begins. The Word that God speaks is not stagnant—His Word is alive and will set your heart free. His Word exposes, heals, and transforms every area of your life.

According to Strong’s Concordance, the Greek word for “Word,” used in Hebrews 4:12, is “logos” (G3056), which means “a word uttered by a living voice, the sayings of God, decree, mandate or order, the moral precepts given by God.” The logos (the written Word of God) will never fail or falter. Luke 1:37 NLT declares, “For the word of God will never fail.”

The Word of God, or the written decree of God, is alive, for it speaks through the ages. Matthew 5:18 NLT declares, “I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.”

Heaven and Earth will pass away before the Word of God fails. God’s Word will never fail. His Word is alive. His sayings are alive. His mandate is alive. The Order and Way of God is alive, is active, and is relevant to every age. Jesus Christ is alive and His Words are not dead.

John 1:14 KJV declares, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” When “Logos” became flesh and took on human form, “the Logos of God” became the Living Word and Love of God revealed on Earth.

Jesus Christ is the Love and “Logos” of God. It is through Jesus Christ that our lives are reconciled to God the Father. It is through Jesus Christ that our hearts are made whole. In Christ we are made new. 2 Corinthians 5:18 KJV declares, “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;” God reconciled mankind back to Himself through His Son—Jesus Christ, “Logos in the flesh.”

When God speaks, His Word heals. When God speaks, His Word restores. When God speaks, His Word will set your heart free. His Word speaks to the very “Heart of the matter.” His Word transforms. His Word renews. His Word has the final say. His Word has the final Authority. His Word is the Living Will and Declaration of God.

In fact, the New International Version expounds on Hebrews 4:12 NIV in the following manner, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

The Word of God is alive and active and penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit. The Word of God is never stagnant. The Word of God is never dull, for the Word of God is alive and is sharper than any two-edged sword. The Word of God is more powerful than any weapon of the enemy.

There is nothing that can dethrone the Word of God. His Word conquers and is more powerful than any storm that comes your way. His Word crushes the head of Satan and triumphs over every ploy, plot, and plan of the enemy.

Hebrews 4:12 KJV declares, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

God sees the marrow of man. He sees what men cannot see. God knows the intents of the heart and discerns what you cannot comprehend. His Word discerns and weighs the intentions of your heart. Let His Word weigh the deepest parts of your heart. Let His Word search every area of your life. Let His Word search the very foundation and framework of your heart. Let the Word become your “Heart’s Cornerstone.”
