Redeemed: Ruth’s Story of RestorationSample

A Bold Step of Faith
In Ruth Chapter 3, we witness a profound demonstration of loyalty and integrity. This pivotal chapter is a turning point in Ruth’s journey as she takes a bold step under Naomi’s guidance. It highlights her faithfulness to Naomi, her humility before Boaz, and her trust in God’s provision for the future.
Naomi knows that Boaz is a kinsman-redeemer—one who could restore their family’s lineage and property. When she gives Ruth specific instructions on how to approach Boaz she knows it has to be at the right time. This act was not impulsive but strategic and followed the cultural laws of Israel (Leviticus 25:25-28). It provided a means of redemption for widows and their families.
Ruth obeys Naomi’s counsel without hesitation. She approaches Boaz with a spirit of humility, uncovering his feet and lying down, a symbolic act of submission and an appeal for protection. Her words to Boaz, “Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a guardian-redeemer of our family” (Ruth 3:9, NIV), reflect her trust in Boaz and God.
Boaz’s response to Ruth’s request is one of integrity and grace. Instead of taking advantage of her vulnerability, he compliments her for her loyalty to Naomi and her decision to seek redemption in a lawful and honorable way. He says, “The Lord bless you, my daughter. This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier” (Ruth 3:10, NIV).
There is reassurance in Boaz’s promise to resolve the matter according to God’s law. He acknowledges that there is order. He knows he must follow it. The closer relative has the first right of redemption but vows to ensure that Ruth and Naomi’s future will be secure (Ruth 3:12-13) no matter what. His actions reflect his respect for Ruth’s character and his commitment to doing what is right. His response also teaches us that loyalty involves more than words—it requires actions rooted in respect and integrity.
Ruth’s loyalty to Naomi and her trust in God to follow instructions sets the stage for a beautiful blessing. Through her faith and faithfulness, she is redeemed by Boaz. This union leads Ruth into the lineage of King David and, ultimately, Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:5-6). What began as a pure simple act of obedience unfolds into a divine story of redemption and restoration, showing how God uses our actions to submit to His will to fulfill His greater plan.
Chapter 3 shows us that loyalty, when aligned with God’s will, delivers blessings that exceed our normal comprehension. It is the commitment to do what is right and the follow-through to the end. It is a testament to how God weaves even the smallest acts of faith into His eternal purposes.
This chapter is designed to be the inspiration to trust God in the unknown, take bold steps of obedience, and remain loyal to the people and purposes He has placed in your life. Through faithfulness, God’s blessings and redemption can bless you and others in the process.
