Jesus’ Trial, Death and Resurrection (As Recorded by John)

DAY 10 OF 10

Jesus' work continues

The disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, even so I am sending you.’” (John 20:20-21)

On the evening of His resurrection day, Jesus appeared to His disciples. By showing them His hands and side, which still bore the scars, He convinced them that He was truly their Master.

With Jesus' resurrection, His work on earth was finished. He had accomplished everything to make reconciliation possible between God and men. Now His disciples had to go and spread this good news everywhere. To equip them for that task, Jesus gave them the Holy Spirit. He would give them the necessary insight, courage, and wisdom to share the Gospel. In this way, even people who had not met Jesus personally (for example, because they lived in another time or place) could still hear about Him and receive the blessing of forgiveness. Jesus Himself says this explicitly: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)

For centuries, believers have obeyed Jesus' command. They have passed on the good news about Him to their children, to people close to them, or to people far away whom they had never met before. People all over the earth have come to faith. What is your place in this? Do you also share the good news?
