Who we surround ourselves with truly matters, doesn’t it? King Ahasuerus learned this the hard way. He was surrounded by men who only offered him worldly advice, leading him down a path of confusion and poor decisions. Though Mordecai, a man of godly wisdom, was in his life, King Ahasuerus didn’t seek him out when he needed direction. Instead, he leaned on advisors whose worldly wisdom came from a place of pride and personal gain.

Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation? In times of uncertainty or trouble, it’s tempting to turn to the voices that are loudest or most convenient. Social media, self-help books, or even well-meaning friends can quickly become our go-to sources for advice. But just like King Ahasuerus, relying on worldly wisdom only leads to more confusion, not clarity. Instead of helping to fix the situation the king found himself in, the king’s advisors made it worse.

Proverbs 14:8 reminds us that godly wisdom, rooted in His Word, helps us navigate life’s challenges with peace and clarity. Who we choose to walk alongside us in these moments makes all the difference. Are we surrounding ourselves with people who point us back to God’s truth? Are they speaking God’s truth into our situations or adding more confusion?

It’s important to seek counsel from those who have walked closely with the Lord, whose wisdom reflects God’s heart. When we do, we can rest assured that we’re not facing life’s challenges alone. God, in His infinite wisdom, has given us His Word and godly relationships to help guide us.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, when trials come my way, help me seek your wisdom above all. Surround me with people who know and love you, who point me back to your Word and truth. May I always turn to you first for wisdom and trust your perfect plan. Amen.
