Easter: The Gift We Didn't Earn

DAY 1 OF 5

Easter: The Gift We Didn't Earn

Written by Anna J Ketchum and Stefanie Cassetto

Day 1: Stronger Stuff

This is the Easter story at its core: Jesus Christ, Son of God, died and rose again.

But why?

Our answer is found way back at the beginning of the Bible, in a very familiar story that you probably already know. Adam and Eve had a perfect existence where they could literally hear God walk in the garden where they lived. Until they sinned.

And when they sinned, they hid.

Now, God knows everything, so he already knew that they sinned and that they were hiding from him.

So why does God come to the garden and call out, "Where are you?"

It feels like a trick question. But, God knows why they hide. Shame. Fear. The expectation of punishment.

But God doesn't want them to feel ashamed or afraid. He wants them to return to the security of the relationship they've always had. So he calls for them, invites honesty, names the cost of their sin, provides for their needs, and promises redemption.

And that's why Jesus died and rose again. Every one of us has done things that we regret, things that make us want to hide. Jesus died on the cross to provide for your needs, and he rose from the dead to bring you redemption.

The Easter story is Jesus still calling out, "Where are you?" If you're feeling stuck in sin and you're tired of feeling ashamed and afraid, don't worry. All you have to do is call back, "I'm here. I'm sorry. Please help me!"

Next Step:

Watch this video, Stronger Stuff, and think about the questions below.

  1. Who is the first person you turn to when you are afraid or ashamed? How does it feel to be fully honest with them?
  2. Life experiences can leave us wondering if God is truly safe. Sometimes, old ways we used to connect with God may not feel safe anymore. Consider your life journey. What place or practice helps you feel safe with God?

About this Plan

Easter: The Gift We Didn't Earn

Most of us know the Easter story. But knowing it isn’t the same as receiving it. What if the resurrection isn’t just proof that Jesus is powerful—but proof that you are deeply loved? What if grace isn’t something you work toward, but something you wake up inside of? In this 5-day journey with Wonderhunt, explore the cost of sin, the depth of God’s compassion, and the life-changing reality of a gift we never could have earned. Because Easter isn’t about trying harder. It’s about receiving what’s already been done.
