Trusting God’s Timing
After feeding the five thousand, the people were in awe of Jesus and wanted to make Him king by force (John 6:15). They saw His miracles, recognized His power, and desired a leader who could meet their needs. But Jesus did not seek human approval or rush ahead of the Father’s plan. He withdrew to a solitary place, waiting for God’s perfect timing. His mission was not to seize an earthly throne but to fulfill his divine purpose.
This wasn’t the first time Jesus rejected premature exaltation. In the wilderness, Satan offered Him “all the kingdoms of the world and their glory” if He would bow down and worship him (Matthew 4:8-10). It was an opportunity to bypass the cross and seize power immediately, yet Jesus refused. He knew that true exaltation comes from God, not man. He was willing to wait, endure suffering, and trust the Father’s plan.
How often do we struggle with waiting? We chase after success, recognition, and opportunities, believing that if we don’t act now, we might miss out. But Jesus showed us a different way—a way of surrender and trust. Waiting on God’s timing is not passive; it is an act of faith. It’s believing that the One who holds all things in His hands knows what is best for us.
James reminds us, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up” (James 4:10). Likewise, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time” (1 Peter 5:6). When we try to elevate ourselves before God’s appointed time, we risk stepping outside of His will. But if we trust in Him, He will exalt us in the right season—far beyond what we could achieve on our own.
Are you in a season of waiting? Do you feel pressured to make things happen on your own? Take heart—God’s timing is always perfect. Just as Jesus waited for the Father’s appointed time, we too must learn to trust that God’s plans are greater than anything we could orchestrate. If we remain steadfast in faith, He will lift us up at the right time, in the right way, for His glory.
