Stop Milking It - Wean for the Win!Sample

What's the meaning in the weaning?
Today I want to focus on some general pointers about weaning and what I feel could be some of the purpose and the meaning of our times of weaning.
- Weaning is a necessary process for all of us if we want to gain more spiritual maturity. God wants us to grow and mature in him.
- Weaning can certainly be traumatic but it shows God is taking us to another level spiritually, so it is ultimately a good thing even though it may not feel good while we are in the thick of it!
- Weaning generally feels rough – it feels unfamiliar, uncertain and uncomfortable. However, it’s important to remember that it’s temporary. We will adjust to the new, and we will come through the other side of it in better shape – and eventually wean for the win!
- In weaning times we lose control and may need to grieve whatever it is that we have to leave behind that we have become dependent on. We do however retain some control in that we can affect the length of time of the weaning process depending on how we respond to it. If we fight it, resist it, kick and scream, it can last longer.
- Weaning requires humility and trust, choosing to believe God has a good plan within the wean. This is difficult because the opposite feels true. A baby being weaned from milk onto solid food may feel forgotten by their parents – that’s absolutely not the case but nevertheless that’s how it often feels. Something new is introduced and something no longer needed in the same way is withdrawn. We feel uncomfortable and disorientated. It’s normal to feel this way, but we must be determined to trust in God’s fatherly wisdom and the bigger picture he holds as we are being weaned.
- God doesn’t take things away from us to be cruel, he does it because it’s necessary for our growth and development. Like when parents take away milk, they replace it with food as the child now needs more variety of nutrients to grow and develop. God doesn’t just withdraw, he replaces what is withdrawn with something greater.
- God wants us to be weaned and mature so we can help and teach others about him. It’s not just about us and our own personal spiritual development. If we grow and mature in God we are much better equipped to love, serve and support those around us.

About this Plan

This plan is focused on the theme of spiritual weaning. It examines the things God may be weaning us off and explains why weaning is an important process in our spiritual development. It unpacks the reasons as to why we need to ‘lean into the wean’ and embrace what God is doing through the weaning process to help us become more mature in him.
