Acts - Until Everyone Knows

DAY 17 OF 28

Acts 17

Paul, Silas, and Timothy arrive in Thessalonica from Philippi and begin teaching about Jesus' Death and Resurrection. However, some people begin a riot after some people in the city become followers of Jesus. So Paul and his team move on to Berea, where the people are eager to hear the Message and study the Scriptures daily.

However, the Jews who caused trouble in Thessalonica come to Berea to stir up more trouble. The believers send Paul to Athens for safety. While Paul is waiting there, he is deeply troubled by the many idols in the city. He teaches daily in the synagogue and marketplace, and his teachings catch the attention of the city's high council, who ask him to explain his views. Paul speaks about the True and Living God who is different from the man-made idols covering the city and urges them to repent.

Jesus gave His followers a Mission to spread the Gospel to all nations (Matthew 28:19). Do you genuinely care about being an effective witness for Him? Have you thought about how to better reach the people you know? Paul was deeply troubled when he saw the idols in Athens, which led him to take action, and that involved speaking to the Greek culture, even quoting some of their poets to connect with his audience (Acts 17:28).

Heavenly Father, help me today to relate to people on their level and to think about effective ways to connect the Gospel in ways they will understand.

About this Plan

Acts - Until Everyone Knows

In Acts, we read about the Early Church taking its first steps to go out to the nations. This happened because ordinary people were filled with the Holy Spirit, enabling them to share the Good News of Jesus and bring healing and freedom. God has designed you to walk in the same Power today! As you learn from this Book, one chapter a day, and read the Devotional, consider this question: How can I step out more to share the Good News of Jesus in the Power of the Holy Spirit?
