Holy Holy (Always Be)

DAY 2 OF 4

Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:

“‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.”

Our world is ever-changing, and it’s easy to feel like nothing’s permanent. I have friends that have been let go from jobs recently that they thought they would retire from. I have church members who are dealing with medical issues that came out of nowhere to wreck their perfectly-planned life. My kids are growing and changing, and one of them is about ready to move out and start his college career. Just a few years ago, this day felt like it would never arrive; now, I’m wishing it hadn’t arrived quite so quickly. As if that weren’t enough, my daughter just got her learners permit, and is starting to look at colleges. All of a sudden, I’m realizing that a few years from now, my life will be completely different. My kids will have moved out, and I’ll be left to figure out what our new normal is.

As our world shifts and changes under our feet, I think the kindest and most comforting message we can receive from God is this: He doesn’t change. Even more than that, He isn’t constrained by our linear timeline. I may be worried about my children’s future, but He isn’t, because He’s already there. He exists in their future, just like He existed in their past. He is already there with them tomorrow, guiding them, providing for them, and drawing them to Him. As I connect to Him, now, He is my literal connection to their future.

I would encourage you to ask yourself, what am I worried about for tomorrow? Take a few minutes and just sit in that question. Allow yourself to sit in the tension of your worry. Next, take a few minutes to talk to Jesus, honestly, about your worry. Don’t ask Him to take your worry away; instead, explain to Him why the object of your worry means so much to you. Invite Him into that area of your heart, and be vulnerable with Him about why you feel that way. Finally, take some time to thank Him, because whatever you’re worried about, we know that He IS the God of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He has already gone before you, and He is right here with you now.
