Am I in the Right Job? …Guidance From the BibleSample

Are You in the Right Job?
When it comes to work, many people look for a job with the best pay, the greatest opportunity, or the safest path forward.
But what if that’s not the real reason you’re in your job? What if your current job has more to do with God’s plan than your paycheck?
Let’s start by looking back.
I remember the first big job decision I made after college. One offer came from a large company I knew well from a summer internship. They offered a great salary and familiar surroundings.
But I chose something else: a smaller company that meant moving countries and uprooting my young family. Why? Because deep down, I knew it was time to reconnect with God.
At the time, church had taken a back seat in our lives. Between raising toddlers and being surrounded by people who didn’t value faith, we just drifted away. But in making that job move, I sensed God drawing me back. And sure enough, once we settled in, we found a church, made Christian friends, and rekindled our faith.
That job wasn’t just a career step. It was part of God’s plan to pull us closer to Him.
What about you?
When you accepted your current role, was it just about opportunity, or was there a deeper nudge from God? Maybe you felt a calling or believed there was purpose in the move.
The question for today is whether you have fulfilled that purpose…
If so, is it time for the next step? If not, are you rushing to leave before God’s work is done?
Consider these words:
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. – Proverbs 16:9
Sometimes, we jump too soon.
A colleague of mine – let’s call him Rob – once left a promising role just before our company merged with another. He didn’t realize senior leadership had chosen him to lead sales for the combined business. He bailed too early and missed the opportunity of a lifetime.
We see the same lesson in the lives of Joseph and David. Joseph endured betrayal, slavery, and prison before stepping into leadership in Egypt (Genesis 37–45). David was anointed king as a teenager, but waited years through trials and threats before actually ruling (1 Samuel 16 – 2 Samuel 5). God’s plan took time, but it prevailed.
So ask yourself this:
Why did I take this job? What might God be doing through it?
Don’t underestimate the spiritual reasons behind your work. And don’t rush off before the season is complete.
God sees the whole plan. So be patient. Stay prayerful and trust that He is working – even through your job.
