EXPECTING A RESCUE
What turmoil racked David’s life! He had abandoned his homeland, become a warrior for the countrymen of Goliath, intended to march against Saul and battle fellow Israelites, was rejected by Philistine generals and now the Amalekites had ravaged Ziklag. It was so bad that David’s own men were close to mutiny.
To make matters worse, Abigail was a hostage. The beautiful voice of reason and faith who had at once cooled David’s bloodlust (see 1 Samuel 25 and the devotion at January 6) and warmed his heart — this winsome woman whose looks could tame a lion, whose grace under fire had stopped David in his tracks — was a captive of the Amalekites.
David prayed and sought the counsel of godly advisers. Then he led his men to the recovery of all the captives and stolen property.
At some point in the melee that wrecked the Amalekites’ party, David approached his precious bride, grateful beyond words to see her alive and well, eager to celebrate God’s deliverance with her.
PRAYER
Lord, I am in need of your deliverance . . .
