Strong and Secure

DAY 2 OF 7

You, Always

“Trust God, my friends, and always tell him each of your concerns. God is our place of safety.” Psalm 62:8 CEV

Lynn

“You always do that! You always have!” The hurtful words hurled at me cut straight to my heart. I had really been trying to change and I knew I was growing. But one day, the old behavior came back and someone pointed a finger, reminding me of my past.

Do you have an area you’re trying to change and someone feels it’s not happening fast enough? You are growing, even if it’s slow. You are becoming more responsible, unselfish, on time, or careful with your words. Yet this change is being dismissed, and instead you continue to hear the words, “You always __________ (fill in the blank with your own weakness, shortcomings, or sins).”

When others remind us of our failures, they can feel unsafe. We can feel as though they’re not on our side, seeing the growth that is happening. Their words hurt.

There is one “always” that gives me comfort when I have been hurt by another’s words. Psalm 62:8 tells us: “Trust God, my friends, and always tell him each of your concerns. God is our place of safety” (CEV). We can trust God to always be a safe place for us. We can trust Him with our deepest secrets and innermost thoughts. He is our safe place. He will not remind us, ever, of our past sins, shortcomings, or failures because of His promise that “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12).

Experiencing Father God’s Healing

When others hurl hurtful words at you, unforgiveness can easily settle in your heart. Read Psalm 62:8, thanking God that He’s always your safe place. Ask Him to empower you to forgive the one who has hurt you, as Colossians 3:13 tells us, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

Growing Stronger

Using a Bible app or website such as Biblehub.com or Biblegateway.com, look up Psalm 62 in the Contemporary English Version (CEV). This verse is full of comforting words. Which one is most meaningful to you today?
