DAY 4: The Slave Girl – Bound but Not Beyond Reach
If Lydia shows us the open heart, the slave girl shows us the oppressed one. She was spiritually bound, economically exploited, and socially invisible. Yet Paul saw her—not as a nuisance or a threat, but as a person made in the image of God.
The girl followed Paul around for days, shouting the truth in a twisted tone. Paul eventually cast the demon out in Jesus’ name. Instantly, the darkness was gone. But instead of celebration, persecution broke out. Her masters were furious—they’d lost their income source.
We don’t get a follow-up on her story, but we know this: God’s power set her free. And Paul’s willingness to step into her mess made it possible. That’s evangelism too—bringing freedom to those the world writes off.
Today, people are still bound—by addiction, abuse, trauma, lies, and spiritual oppression. Sharing Jesus with them can be costly and inconvenient. But the Gospel was never meant to be comfortable. It was always meant to be powerful—to save, heal, and deliver.
Reflection:
- Who do you know that seems “too messy” to reach?
- How can you follow Jesus’ example in loving the overlooked and bound?
- Are you willing to be uncomfortable to bring freedom to someone else?
