CollideSample

One of the biggest detractors from change is the fact that we often can’t imagine what’s on the other side of it. We are comfortable with the way things are. Even if they aren’t the best they could be, and even if we know they aren’t the ideal, we keep things the way they are because we know what to expect when we do. Without us even realizing it, the expected and familiar can be the most significant factors that keep us stuck in situations, relationships, or patterns that aren’t helpful or good for us. We can’t see or envision what might be on the other side, so we don’t make a move at all.
This passage from Isaiah serves as a reminder of God’s capacity to create good and new things. This passage was written during the time the Hebrew people were in exile. They were removed from their homeland—from the place that had defined who they were as a people and as individuals. This prophecy from God was intended to encourage them to imagine a better future after that. In other words, new possibilities emerged. We may not be able to relate to what the Hebrew people experienced. Still, we can understand the feeling of not being able to imagine something new beyond our current circumstances. Still, even if we can’t imagine it, we can know that God specializes in new things, and that includes new things for our lives.
What new thing do you need to believe God can do in your life? This week, take that to God in prayer.

About this Plan

Change often feels like a collision. Getting jolted out of the rut of predictability doesn’t always feel good, but it does have the potential to lead to something positive. Scripture is full of examples of people who collided with God and were never the same because of it. That didn’t mean it was always easy, but it did mean they were forever changed as a result. What would it take to put yourself in a position to collide with God?
