Identity & Temptation

DAY 3 OF 4

The Second Temptation

The devil shows Jesus the kingdoms of the world and offers to give him those kingdoms. But those kingdoms are not the devil’s to give. Again, Jesus is secure in his identity. Satan can’t tempt him by offering him the kingdoms of the world because he knows those kingdoms belong to his Father. And as the son of God, Jesus has access to anything that belongs to his Father.

Temptation is tricky and when you aren't secure in your identity in Christ, it can lead you to believe that you need to work for things that already belong to you. But God would never have you act out of character to get access to something He's already promised is yours. Remember who you are. Remember that you are royalty. You are a child of God. Don't let people or temptation bait you into following them and thinking your life is in their hands.

God gave you life and all the promises of God are yes and amen. They belong to you already. So how can someone else come and offer to give you what God has already given you.

Your future, your success, your goodness does not rest in someone else’s hands. It rests in God. Your future is already secure. Your success is already a fact.

About this Plan

Identity & Temptation

This Bible plan examines how Jesus leveraged his identity to overcome temptation in the wilderness. Many of us walk away from this passage with an understanding that we should resist the devil—and we should. But sometimes resisting temptation can be easier said than done. This plan deeply examines exactly what Jesus did to stand strong in his identity to resist the temptation of the devil.
