The Lies We Believe: Beyond Quick Fixes to Real Freedom Part 2Sample

Can I share something encouraging with you?
Even while Gideon was believing the lie that God had abandoned him, look at what God said: “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand.” (Judges 6:14 NIV)
This is incredible! God called Gideon to make a difference, even though he believed lies about God and doubted his abilities.
Remember the promise of 1 Peter 5:10 (CSB): “The God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, establish, strengthen, and support you after you have suffered a little while.”
Even if you have been held back in the past, you don't have to be held back in the future. Even if you have fallen before, God can write a new story for your life. But, identifying your spider is just the beginning. Now you need to take action.
Here's how to start:
Step 1: Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal your spider. The Holy Spirit is a person who lives in you, and you can ask Him directly to show you the lies you've been believing.
In my experience, God is not in the business of shouting; He has a pattern of whispering. If your life is loud and hurried, you may miss His gentle voice. When we quiet ourselves, God's voice is easier to hear
Step 2: Ask specific questions. Start praying specifically about your spider:
- "God, what's my spider?"
- "God, what lie did I believe here?"
- "God, what's behind this struggle I can't break free from?"
Step 3: Examine your past experiences. Sometimes, you'll need to revisit difficult seasons of your life and ask, "What did I conclude about God or myself during that time?"
Now, you may not want to revisit painful experiences. That's understandable, but you have to decide: do you want to be comfortable, or do you want to be free?
Remember, this process is ultimately about surrender, not striving. Freedom in Christ is not found in trying harder, working more, or having more discipline. Freedom is found in wholehearted surrender to God.
If you've been struggling with something for years, maybe it's because you've been trying to break free using your strength. Is it time to try a different approach, surrendering to God's power instead of relying on your own?
The person who shared with me about their prayer struggle said something profound: "Once I identified my spider—the lie that God doesn't care about me—I realized I wasn't dealing with a prayer problem. I was dealing with a belief problem about God's heart toward me."
That's the breakthrough waiting for you. When you identify the lies you've been believing, you can finally address the real issue, instead of just managing symptoms.
The lie you've been believing doesn't have to control your future. God wants to replace those lies with His truth, but first, you have to be willing to acknowledge what you've been believing and surrender it to Him.
The truth you embrace today can set you free for the rest of your life.
