Day 16 – A Merciful Father

Father God is very merciful. Luke 6:36 (ESV) plainly tells us to be like our Daddy. “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.” Have you ever intentionally or unintentionally disobeyed your father, and you were expecting his worst reaction, but he reacted kindly to you instead? That must have confused you but that was mercy. As I warn my toddler, not to jump off high places for fear of injury, I run to her to comfort her when she does make the jump and hurts herself rather than scolding her. The correction lovingly comes afterwards but that’s mercy.

Hebrews 4:16 invites us to draw near to God’s throne with boldness, knowing we will always find mercy and grace. If guilt or shame has made you pull away, remember, that’s the enemy’s lie. Your Father’s heart is tender, patient, and full of love (Psalm 86:15). Come to Him with the confidence of a beloved child. He’s not pushing you away; He’s waiting to embrace you.

God’s mercy never runs dry. As a good Father, He does not treat you as your sins deserve. Your Father’s mercy is new every morning (Lamentations 3:23) and there’s always room for you in His presence.
