Lead, Love, Serve: The Calling of Godly ManhoodSample

Lead, Love, Serve: The Calling of Godly Manhood

DAY 1 OF 3

Lead

Godly men must lead. Leadership is not an optional trait or a personality quality. Rather, it is a calling given to men by God Himself. Many people think of leadership as authority, position, or control, but Scripture paints a different picture. Leadership is stewardship. God entrusts men with influence in their work, in their homes, and in the wider community. In this, He requires that they lead with faithfulness, integrity, and humility. A godly man understands that his authority is not his own; it is borrowed from God and must reflect God’s character rather than his own ambition.

At work, godly men must lead with diligence and integrity. Paul instructed believers to labor as though their true master were the Lord, not men (Col. 3:23-24). Such emphasis sets the pace for honesty, excellence, and dependability in the workplace. Daniel lived this out in Babylon, where he was recognized for his exceptional spirit and incorruptibility (Dan. 6:3-4). A godly man must not work merely for advancement or recognition; he must work with a higher standard, one that quietly influences others. In this way, he leads not by title but by the consistent witness of his life.

In the home, godly men must lead with care and responsibility. Paul wrote that a husband is the head of his wife in the same way that Christ is the head of the church (Eph. 5:23). Such headship does not permit harshness or selfishness but calls for sacrificial love, protection, and guidance. Paul also taught that a man who does not manage his own household well is not prepared to lead in the church (1 Tim. 3:4-5). Leadership in the family requires patience, provision, and discipleship rooted in grace. A godly man must lead his home humbly, knowing that those closest to him will be most shaped by the way he loves and guides them.

In the church and in society, godly men must lead with integrity and humility. Peter reminded leaders to shepherd God’s people not by domineering but by modeling a life worth imitating (1 Pet. 5:2-3). Jesus declared that His followers are the light of the world, visible through their deeds (Matt. 5:14-16). Godly men must lead in their communities not by striving for power but by shining with the character of Christ, so that others are drawn to God.

Regardless of the arena, leadership should never be about self-advancement but about God’s glory and the good of others. Godly men must lead under biblical principles, for in doing so they point those under their influence toward the ultimate leader, Jesus Christ, whose authority is perfect and whose guidance never fails.

About this Plan

Lead, Love, Serve: The Calling of Godly Manhood

Pop culture slogans like “live, laugh, love” set a shallow standard for life. God calls men to something weightier and eternal: lead, love, serve. Leadership is not about power but stewardship under Christ. Love is not sentiment but sacrificial devotion. Service is not weakness but the mark of true strength. In this 3-day devotional, you will be challenged to embrace God’s design for manhood. To lead with integrity, to love with Christlike compassion, and to serve with humility is the calling of every godly man.
